Unit 1 Notion of Images

*****************************************************************************************************************

Images are perceived.  Once an image such as a photo, quotes, painting, movie clip, etc. is seen, the mind starts to think and ponder on it. When you pass someone walking in a grocery store and take a glance at them, judgements are consciously or subconsciously being made by what you see. This is perception. Perception is reality. Backgrounds, attitudes, thoughts, and actions generate our reality.

Today my English professor was pulling  up a PowerPoint of notes on his personal laptop. He had already projected the overhead, so we saw the image of his background. It was a picture of his family. Him and his wife have seven kids together. One of my fellow classmates said "you have a very beautiful black family", my professor comments back and says "I did all the work!". The whole class laughs, including myself. We thought he was referring to sex. We misinterpreted. In reality he was speaking on the time and effort he spends with his kids to make them into the beautiful, successful people they want to be. My attention was immediately brought to how conditioned our minds were, unknowingly. I realized then, in there, I wanted to be more conscious of my perceptions, and focus on the bigger picture a tiny bit more. I am giving Instagram a break. What you see is not always what you get.

In order for a reality to change, the cognitive thinking process must change. When this happens images are seen in a different perspective.  "Yet it is only by becoming more fully aware that we begin to see clearly". Depending on your perception, in the image above you will either see a young lady or an old woman.
